As a leader of a small group within a mega company I see these behaviors on a daily basis.  With layoffs coming on average every six months, it becomes even more difficult to build trust with &quot;Management&quot;.  While the days of organizational loyalty and building something bigger than the individuals may be gone, I think there is great progress to be made with a &quot;Band of Brothers&quot;  model.  

Like you said people will respond to truth, honesty, and transparency.  As leaders we must build an atmosphere that says...  It doesn&#039;t matter what happens out side of these walls, we will stick together through thick and thin.  If we put ourselves out there to be the shed over our employees as well as the bulldozer that removes obstacles for them we can start to build the trust of the group in a very short amount of time.  You have to be willing to stand up and say no to the organization even when it&#039;s not what management wants.  Using this method I have been able to change some of the most apathetic members of my new team (since March) into team contributes.  They are not doing it for the organization, they are doing it for each other.
