How do I do approach team building?

  1. We start with determining the purpose. Team building is a process to help the leader and the team move from “here” to “there.”
  2. Nearly always, I conduct confidential interviews with the team leader and each member of the team, to gather data on what’s working, what isn’t, and what people think needs to happen to get the team to the next level.
  3. The data is reviewed with the team leader (without attribution as to who said what) before the event.
  4. A design of the team building event (which can range from a half day to two full days) is reviewed with the team leader beforehand.
  5. I facilitate the event.
  6. Follow-up meetings (2-4 hours) are strongly encouraged.
